Carlos Gannon was serving out his twenty in the Marine Corps, not a boring life, but with the wars in the Middle East winding down it looked like he was going to serve out his last few years in relative calm. Back home, on rotation in the States, a routine chopper flight turned to disaster. Carlos Gannon would never leave his bed again, let alone serve his country.
But they were lucky. Maggie and Carlos had each other. Tragedy is hard, but it’s better if you have someone to talk to.
Things were settling into a nice normal pattern. Hospitals. Rehab. Maggie and Carlos chatting to each other late into the night. A quiet life. The world, however, is ever changing. Unpredictable. Threatened from space, soon Earth would need heroes. Maggie and Carlos would be called to service, whether they liked it or not.

Loved the book! A little short or maybe I devoured it to fast. A great read if your looking for something easy but very enjoyable. Typical good guys, bad guys. Just bought the second one, so now we will see if this was a one hit wonder. I will let you know tonight. I am taking the wife to the movie and will read this while waiting for her. Just so you get the idea: if you liked Darners-Ell Donsaii, Chandlers - April Series then this will be up your alley. A fun read...something to get you through till you can find a new "WEBER's - Harrington Series" or "BENNETT's - Koban Series" or "Saxon ANDREW's - Annihilation Series". Right off the bat, I was drawn into this story line!!!
Unintended consequences. Tragedy strikes and Maggie and Cannon are suddenly thrust into a situation far beyond anything they could have ever have thought of. Saving the world. Literally.
Finding out they are possessed with abilities far beyond a human, they are the only ones who can stop the Korvecki's invasion and stop the Torvin's quarantine. To write more would give away spoilers, but trust me, if you like Alien Invasion and Superhero's, this is a fantastic debut novel by Joseph Bradshire.
I loved it!
I normally don't read Sci-Fi, but if this is a representation of a good Sci-Fi book, my reading list just expanded! I hope Bradshire comes out with another one soon.
Really enjoyed this book from cover picture to the epilogue !!
Very inventive, intelligent, fun, and amazingly smart plot!
Love the understanding of relationships and a very strong determined heroin! Congrats Mr Bradshire!
Too full of cliches and deus ex machina to enjoy. You can repeat stereotypes but I didn't see anything funny or entertaining enough here
Finally a scifi book in which the writer doesn't have to explain every scene in excruciating detail and the plot just keeps on chugging. Very hard to put down. Look forward to the next one.
I don't read a lot of science fiction (mostly watch movies) but I liked this book. It's a light read, the characters were well developed and I found myself wanting to know what would happen to them. Besides, sometimes a light read is exactly what you need. I enjoy reading new authors and this author doesn't get bogged down - looking forward to reading next installment.
